Material laid down
Not the volume of the part, but the volume actually extruded: the solid walls, plus the internal infill at the chosen rate. A part hollowed to 20% uses roughly a third of what it would use solid.
What does 3D printing actually cost?
The question comes up on every quotation, and the answers you find online contradict each other. Here is the exact method we apply, with real figures rather than ranges.

Indicative prices in euros: VAT is not applicable under French CGI article 293 B. Tables distinguish unit prices from totals; preparation, any minimum-order top-up, supplied objects and delivery are added where not already included. The approved quote confirms the amount payable.

A price in ten seconds, no file needed
Give the dimensions of your part, the material and the infill: the quote engine prices a solid block of those dimensions, with the same rules as the instant quote. A hollow or openwork part will cost less; calculating from your file refines the estimate; the approved quote confirms the final price.
Why nobody quotes you a price per kilo
Because a price per kilo means nothing. Two parts of the same weight can take two hours or eight hours of machine time depending on their height, their infill and the number of overhangs. Weight says nothing about time, and time is half the cost.
A 3D printing quote is made of four things: the material actually laid down, the machine time, the file preparation, and the quantity ordered. The first three depend on your part. The fourth is the only one entirely in your hands.
The four components of a price
Machine time
It depends on layer height and total part height. At the same part height, a 0.12 mm layer requires twice as many layers as a 0.24 mm layer. Total time also depends on nozzle size and extruded volume.
Preparation
Orientation, printability check, slicing, launch, final inspection, packaging and drop-off of the parcel. It is a flat €7.90 per order, not per piece — which is why ten pieces never cost ten times one piece. Support removal is included in the price of the part itself.
Quantity
For professionals, a sliding coefficient applies from ten pieces and falls to 0.70 from a thousand upwards. For private customers, an order includes at least €15 of parts: below that, the top-up is added and shown plainly on the quote.
One test part, six materials
Same geometry, 60 × 40 × 25 mm, 20% infill, 0.2 mm layers. Only the material changes. The prices below are for the part itself, private-customer rate: preparation (€7.90 per order) and shipping are added once.

ABS is less dense than PETG, but printing it may require more preparation and thermal control. Its price also reflects equipment, machine time and scrap risk, not just plastic mass.
In practice, a single PLA test part ordered by a private customer comes to €22.90: €5.25 for the part, topped up to the €15 minimum, plus €7.90 of preparation. Three test parts come to €23.65, ten to €60.38. Collection at the workshop is free.

PLA test part, professional rate. The total includes preparation, once per order. The average unit price is rounded for display. The total is calculated and rounded for the batch: multiplying the displayed unit price may produce a difference of a few cents.

How much does UV printing on an object cost?
Since September 2026 the workshop also prints in UV, directly onto the object. The price no longer depends on a volume but on the printed area, the finish (colour only, white underlayer, varnish, 3D relief) and the quantity — several pieces fit on a 330 × 420 mm bed and calibration is paid once per bed. Preparation is a flat €7.90 per order, as for 3D printing: it covers positioning your artwork and the image preview before printing. These examples assume the object footprint matches the stated size. The 60 × 60 mm keyring is arranged as a batch on one bed; a larger object can change the number of runs and the price. Marking only, object excluded. The quote confirms the actual placement.
