Material

PVA — Polyvinyl alcohol, water-soluble support

Not a material for the part itself: it is what makes impossible shapes possible.

Use it for

  • Internal channels, closed cavities and undercuts
  • Threads and gears printed with no rework or sanding
  • Printed assemblies that come out already assembled, in one piece

What it will not do

  • Three times the price of PETG: only worth it if the load demands it
  • Matt, slightly rough surface — not a cosmetic material
  • Black only

What we have learned using it

A lot of enquiries come in asking for PVA when PETG is more than enough. We say so: an over-specified part has never won anyone's loyalty.

Consider instead

  • PETG — the most common part material
  • PLA — for simple shapes, without soluble support

Names are the manufacturer's own and serve as the ordering reference. The colour runs through the material, it is not painted on — swatches are indicative, a physical sample prevails.

Compliance and technical data

Compliance and technical data
RoHS compliancecompliant — manufacturer's test report
REACH (SVHC)no SVHC declared (manufacturer's SDS)
Food contactnot certified
Fire behaviour (UL94)not rated
Tensile strength (X-Y)soluble support material, non-structural: no mechanical values published
Recommended drying80 °C · 8–12 h
Saturated moisture uptake6,25 % (25 °C · 55 % RH)

Highly hygroscopic material: sealed storage with desiccant, systematic drying before printing.

Values measured by the filament manufacturer on standardised specimens. A printed part will differ with orientation, infill and settings: we validate on a test part on request.

Technical data sheet (TDS) from the filament manufacturer, Bambu Lab, in English, as published on its store on 6 September 2026: mechanical and thermal properties measured on specimens, drying and printing conditions. It is the document to attach to a technical file; we also send it with the order on request.
