Material

ABS — Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

The first real step up in heat resistance, and the material for thermoforming moulds.

Use it for

  • Parts that get hot, up to 90 °C
  • Thermoforming moulds: up to 105 °C after annealing
  • Parts to be sanded back or bonded

What it will not do

  • Yellows and turns brittle in sunlight: choose ASA outdoors
  • Significant shrinkage across large flat areas
  • Needs a heated chamber, so slightly more machine time

What we have learned using it

It has to be dried at 80 °C before printing. Dried at 45 °C — the PLA preset on many machines — it bubbles and lifts off the bed. That is the most common mistake with this material.

Consider instead

  • ASA — same thing, plus UV resistance
  • PC — beyond 90 °C

Names are the manufacturer's own and serve as the ordering reference. The colour runs through the material, it is not painted on — swatches are indicative, a physical sample prevails.

Values measured by the filament manufacturer on standardised specimens. A printed part will differ with orientation, infill and settings: we validate on a test part on request.

Technical data sheet (TDS) from the filament manufacturer, Bambu Lab, in English, as published on its store on 6 September 2026: mechanical and thermal properties measured on specimens, drying and printing conditions. It is the document to attach to a technical file; we also send it with the order on request.
